-Media is technologies that connect or separate people.

1. the web as a technology

- what is WWW? The ' world wide web ' is suggested by tim berners-lee.
WWW is the idea pool. We share our ideas and all aspects
of common project. and the WWW is a vast, heterogeneous network.
It is big , fast and wide .

- ISO : international standards organization
IETF : internet engineering task force
RFC : request for comments

- URI : universal resource identifier
URI is include URLand URN. URL is real network route.
URN is persistent location , in a specific name and a specific resource

- HTML : hypertext markup language
HTTP : hypertext transfer protocol

2. the web as an art form

we learn first 'lisa jevbratt' - 1:1 ,
and also learn ' mark napier' - shredder.

WWW is very familiar instrument which we may use in Internet.If www isn't invented by tim berners-lee , nowday , we cannot share our idea and thinking . Especially for many scholar, they have tostudy each other because they do not study eachother , they can't develop thier ability. Then , www is so useful thing.When I use the Internet, I usually asked what is that? - http, html etc.In class, I can learn what that is. and I know that WWW has some aspect of art.Common knowledge , we may be think www is just a technology.I also think www can't has art form. But lisa jevbratt and mark napier have different think.They use www and express that some arts - 1:1 and shredder.I think that the www's range is so vast more than we may think.

Summary

This weekend we learnd about hypertext. First, we think what is media. and we know that new media do not replace old media.they just display old media. For example , Wepfile is show the contents of book.The focus of lecture is that Hypertext is One way that digital media has been understoodis as new forms of writing, reading and thinking.We see some datas and short movie files for 'cut-ups'.We learned Engelbart'work.In 1960s, He announced treatise -'augmenting human intellect'.In treatise, He suggest a computer that can communicate with humanand also can increase human intellect.So, he invented mouse , hypertext et. - nls demo.

I think that a book is old media and computer is new media.Also I have been thought their are different kind of media.But in lecture, the computer is just a tool to display a contents that old media have.So, I perceive I have stereotyped viewpoint . When I Heared lectureI say only ' A-ha'. and I know that I have so little knowledge abot media yet.And we see some short movie files about 'cut-ups'.before the class, I have no idea of 'cut-ups'. First, The film is strange and do not familiar . But it is interesting.Because that is not a theory . That is media- sound , scen.That is why I more easily understood 'cut-ups'.By the way, we learnd abot Vannevar bush at last week.In class I know that Vannevar bush affects Engelbart.I think both Vannevar bush and Engelbart is great man.

Summary


This week I start learning about Media. Media is connect and separate people , and media embody many things. In the past, as the white egg connect the wall and powder, now media connect many things. Whatever they are, if they can connect and separate something, they becopme media. and then I read vannevar bush's article 'as we may think'. In this article I met new information.
time passed by, the experience of human and amount of imformation are more increased. but there is no instrument which systematically process them. The method one by one examine and search match data is so simple. But, if we use the another method, we search the imformation simply and quickly. Bush say that Human's memory is very speedy although it is momentary. Because that is the net of a clue and mark of association. then he think 'Memex' . The 'Memex' process many imformation and makes useful data , so it helps mant people.

At the first class I learn new mean about Media. I have been think that media is photograpy, movies, and graphic. That is a hazy idea. First, I can't understand a lecture. But some pictures ( example : white egg , car) help me. After I understand what media mean, I think meaning of media mere open.
In morden society, we may use many imformation through hypertext. but we don't think about who create hypertext first. Because we think that use hypertext is so natural and I think that, too. In the class, I know Vannevar Bush thinks 'Memex' and the 'Memex' is the beginning of hypertext. It is amazing. To me creative thinking is very hard work.At that time, I think 'Memex' is very creative and useful thing.
Umm..... . Although that contain interesting contents and something new to me, the lecture is difficult to me.
