Title : Social networks



Summary

This week I learned abot social works. Before class, I have no idea of social networks.Just think we connected something else. In class, I know that is new media. So, Key point 1 is that new media technologies reinforce social networks or isolate people.First , I learned part1 " Social networks as science". At past, Social networks is the field of social science. But recently,physicists and mathematicians contributed to an understanding of social networks .And In network , some person have special position. If people A and B connect to the same people , they have equivalent positions in networks. If people A connect separate networks , A has bridging capital. And If people B is central to a network , B has bonding capital.Second " Social networks as technology"- email, weblogs. If I buy a book about IT, the recommender systems inform me another book which people who bought this book also bought. Third is the "social networks as popular culture". One example is 'bacon number'.Kevin bacon has number 0 and an actorA who appeard in a movie with bacon has number 1.And an actor B who appeard in a movie with A has bacon number 2. Another example is "Fixing" Google site - calld 'Google bombing'.The members of an online community know the trick of Google searches and can affect the results of that. Finally I learned "social networks as art". I can see the work of Mark Lombardi's Global Networks,Ben Discoe’s Friendster Map and Josh On 's They Rule etc.

Now days, we live in the technologies. Many technologies connect our relationship. But we cannot think that. Just use and enjoy. For example , In Korea , The Cyworld is very big social networks. Most of people have minihomepage and through minihome , they connect each other. At past , the social networks are analyzed socialists. Because that name has the word 'social'. But today, the new media is appeard. So 'Social networks ' is the field of science. I think the more and more technologies are appeard , the social networks are biger and biger. That is true. So far , we just can made relationships with other people at hometown or school etc. But today, we can connect people with weblog and we can share our own interest, hobby , and informations. The media become important source at social networks!!And some artist use the map of social networks. They just write the name of thier own relationships , and then that is one work. It may be seems to so simple to me, but the subject of some map is funny. I think that The social networks will become biger and biger. and also, the media is the cental of that!
